I have seen these types of clouds here in the desert, usually occurring during the monsoon season of July through September. It is odd to see the same formation repeated several times over in the same pattern.

we don't seem to get the extremes necessary up here...been cloud gazing all my life and this is the first I've seen in photos or real. They seem to be the inspiration for that Van Gogh painting "Starry Night" tho so I should have suspected they existed.
