To get some variety in my never ending  Poolhouse work, I started one of the "introducing scenes" for my 2020'th film.

A new protagonist. Welcome "The Gate"

[attach=1]

I found the stargate ( by 3dregenerator) on TF3DM
Meanwhile I get more and more used to Wings3D so I could disassemble it for animation.
On Saturday I hope to get first animation results (I'm still playing with some settings until I like the animation of the event horizon and the steam)

another animation will show the rotating Scroll Wheel and the lights going on.

Dune

Wow, very cool entry! It's like a lens. Looking forward to how you'll animate this.

archonforest

Wow very cool stuff here! Cant wait to see the anim part.
Dell T5500 with Dual Hexa Xeon CPU 3Ghz, 32Gb ram, GTX 1080
Amiga 1200 8Mb ram, 8Gb ssd

Kadri

Nice. You could even animate the water effect with Terragen.

DocCharly65

animate the water effect? already in process  8)   ;)

DocCharly65

Here a test of the scene before the wormhole has formed...
"chevron 1 activated"  ;) :o

The clamps will be brightened a little bit...

Next I must check my Stargate collection for the sequence of animation... symbol ring is rotating then stopping - clamp is selecting the symbol - then light is going on (or before the clamp is selecting?) - symbol ring goes on rotating...

I will see...  :)

IT'S IN THE QUEUE - IT'S IN THE QUEUE !

;D

Sorry -- just happy about a minimal step forwards.
I have sent this one (only 720x405 AA1/Detail1) successfully to TheRANCH and I hope I will get a 1280x720 AA3/Detail3 version for less than 50$  ;).

Syfy specialists will know, which part of commissioning the stargate it is...  ;)
Rendering on my last Reserve PC will need 1-2 Days for one 1280x720 3/3 image  ;D
So I decided to test the project export and the render farm for this single pic.

Cross your fingers for me... Anyway I'm curious if the wormholeeffect of this scene works as I want... could be a crazy animation  8)

Another step running at "Asus 01"  ;)
This will be the animation of the Chevron fixation.
I'm a little proud on a manually and entirely new painted bump map for all the ornamentals  8)

Isn't it just fantastic to work in this field?

Do you mean wormholes and quantum field theory?  - Yes, very intersting but also very complicated  :o

:)

Update 5:45 pm:
Renderjob on farm running...
33.33% done
Current cost: 24.18 €

Will be one of my most expensive images... no matter how bad it will be - YOU  MUST  LIKE  IT  !!!

;D

DocCharly65

I fear I will not use this edition of the view for an animation...
There's a monster blur (DOF) in it
3 monster glas objects with several lights...

I will work on a different solution.

35.56% done
Current cost: 47.67 €

OK... the principle works but a renderfarm isn't a wizzard as well for too extreme settings. I have cancelled this job.
We'll see, what we try next...

Dune

That's too bad. So you see; wormholes and quantum field theory are easy..... TG is difficult!

DocCharly65

Right...  OK I have to admit that it's a bit presumptuous to try to recreate this Hollywood scene after 1 year of experience with Terragen 3 ... (And use ONLY Terragen for all special effects - but that is the goal  :o 8) )

That's not really my template. In the TV series other Stargates were used depending on the planet and the "dialing sequences" differ slightly. I have created a version according to my possibilities... But I think it will be still considerable.

Here you can see the different looking effect in the TV series (Less impressive than the Movie of course):

Dune

Looking at that exploding/imploding lens, I'd say it can be done by displacing a disc or plane with a vortex shader and a projected circle perhaps, adding a glass shader for the texture. Some smoke/cloud in tiny drops to go with it (like I did in my waterfall setup). How did you go about it? Pretty impressive film sequence, by the way.
