Daz Studio -> Terragen

I don't know if this is completely appropriate, but considering the range of options.

I primarily use Daz Studio with Iray renderer, and am wondering how easily stuff can be moved between it and Terragen. (I don't own Terragen yet, but plan on buying it at the end of the month, for HDRI IBL if nothing else)

I realize stuff can be transferred as Obj, but there's a lot of shading that I'm likely to lose.
Iray shaders cover stuff like subsurface scattering, translucence, light-emitting surfaces, displacement, and so on.
Now, I expect that that stuff won't auto translate, but how much of it can be replicated in Terragen?

How about Genesis figures? Only when converted to Obj?

First of all welcome to the forum!!
You won't be able to just transfer the objects to TG and everything is set. But you can do everything you mentioned except subsurface scattering. It's a bit of work until you have set up the shaders for Terragen, but in the end you'll get beautiful renders of your objects.
There are some ways to fake SSS to a certain amount:

It's not the real thing, but maybe it's OK like this.

...and yes, I guess you'll have to convert them to OBJ.

Translucency might be enough. If I'm using Terragen with objects, I'm unlikely to be doing close up portraits.

As an aside, here's one of my favorite clever moments from ~10 years back with Terragen: http://willbear.deviantart.com/art/19-560831884

I basically colored the terrain with dark brown and cyan, and then inverted the entire image to get a 'black sun' and red landscape.

I regularly use DAZ product in my work and it works best run through the free program PoseRay as that program makes the exact 'flavour' of .obj that TG consumes....
