CPU reduction. CPU speed goes down to 1.35 GHz during renders.

I have been having difficulty rendering lately. My CPU speed reduces to 1.35 GHz for about a minute, then returns to full speed, then does this again.

I have checked the heat output of the computer components. I have run several anti-virus checkers and run anti-malware.

I have turned off the Window 10 apps; 98% are useless anyway. I wonder if this is a windows 10 issue? This does not occur using Lightwave or other programs.

I have a AMD 6100 processor on an older BioStar mobo. 750 TI graphics card.

Thanks.

Strange that it only seems to occur with Terragen. What's your CPU? How many cores? Try rendering with the number of threads limited to half your CPU cores.

Also, check for any power/CPU speed throttling settings in Power Settings for Win 10.

I have checked all these things. I am running an AMD 6100 six core with Kingston 2100 ( or close, I can't remember) ram. I tried cutting down the CPU cores to 3. (This six core has three processors) The temps do not report the actual temp, but they have remained consistent while I have had this computer.

I am going to re-install Terragen. It will be a couple hours; I have a lunch meeting.

It's also time to build a better machine. This was supposed to be a 6300 FX build. Avatar used a 6100 instead. (I will be contacting Amazon about this)

Thanks Oshyan.

No joy on the re-install. I think it has something to do with Windows 10. Terragen worked fine until an update about three weeks ago.

Strange and unfortunate. I hope you can get it sorted out...

I re installed Windows 10. I also re installed Terragen. Same problem. It is probably some kind of hardware issue. Time to rebuild.:)

Could this maybe be why my Xeon X5450 only gets about 10-25% boost over my dual cover at a quarter the specs?

I don't know WA. I can't trace the problem. It started shortly after the latest Terragen update. Since there has not been other people bringing this up, I am guessing it's a hardware problem.

I was going to re-build this system to make it more current anyway. New mobo and processor, with a power supply able to handle more hardware options.

Try running some benchmark software. Also, something which will trace and stress test the CPU/s. It may give you a clue.

Though only on Win 7 I seem to have much slower rendering since an win 7 update a while back as well. Reinstalling didn't help me either.

I will be opening the case tomorrow and see what's up. Maybe a fan isn't working. Dust?

Hmm, I got Windows 7 too.
