hi friends.
i have a question about shadows and darkness of them.
in the image as you can see, the shadows and details of the tree are too dark and i cant see anything of the tree.
i read some of forum articles about gi and add another light to fill it and i tried to solve the problem . also i changed the default values of gi and enviro loght.
can you help me to solve that?
thanks :)

Hannes

This is a very small image. Hard to see the real problem, but in my opinion, the textures of the trees are too dark.
When you are using texture maps, you can check which diffuse colour you have in the object's shader. If it's grey, turn it to white and see, if this helps. Otherwise just brighten up your image maps a bit in an image editing software.

Here's my favourite advice: don't use additional lightsources too brighten something up, unless, there is a real lightsource in the scene like lamps or fires. Play with the light that is natural and you'll get a natural looking image.

And to me the shadows are absolutely OK.

Dune

Yes, and perhaps a little (more) translucency in the leaves as well.

I'm not sure, Ulco. These are pine trees as far as I can see.

Dune

You're right, but I sometimes even then use some translucency, or the trees are terribly dark.

agree it is the model, happens to me all the time too. I never bother to fix it though. Probably not a good idea to add another light sources in any event.
It has been eaten.

uhmmm, the background shadows are falling in a different direction than the foreground shadows.

here is a big render with one sun (i just deleted fill light) and default setting of gi and everything, and also add translucent to tree material.
i think the issue is coming from the terrain height. i`m not sure but the detail was a bit better in lower height.
as you can see the model was changed and the texture of needle is not dark at all :(
thanks friends

Look in the shader node of the object itself.
If it is grey as Hannes said despite that the texture looks bright in your image editor it will be dark in Terragen,
untill you make it brighter in the shader node.

maybe the shadow is good in this theme ,but i think i have to see some green color or detail if the ground .
and actualy the problem is not only about the shadow, as you can see trees are to dark :(

That's indeed true. Didn't notice that before. But I guess, it's because of the now deleted fill lights?

Maybe you should render a closer view of some of the trees with higher settings? And you could try using soft shadows.
