Haven't played with TG in a while, been super busy the past couple months. This is the first steps on a new WIP, I've been looking at possibly moving to Montana sometime this year, so this is supposed to be based off of areas I've been looking at. Still a lot of tweaks to make but this is just the bare-bones idea so far. C&C welcome, Hope you all like it!

Because I am ignorant about adding objects except in population on a plane or one by one, did you use a map for the foreground trees? I know you used to be able to kind of weight paint an area in other programs. Did you do something similar? And, where is the tut for that? I read and follow all directions so as not to crash my programs. Thanks in advance. :)

Nice country scenery there. The only thing I would change is maybe more shaders for the mountains in terms of colors. Everything else looks fantastic.

Lady of the Lake

Very subtle, I like it very much. Especially the cool lines of front trees have a nice design. Painted shader?

Hey, that's great, I love the sense of scale!

Nice! The colors are a bit washed out, but that is no big deal. Love Montana, spent some of the best time of my life there. Would return in a heartbeat if I could make a living there. Where are you thinking of moving to? It won't be the flatlands I can tell...  ;D

mhaze

Super grat sense of scale and space and nicely arranged vegetation

Thanks everyone! I'll probably have an update in a few days, when I get a little time to work on this and actually focus on it  ;) I don't like to half @$$ projects, especially ones that have a bit of extra meaning to them personally.

Either Missoula or Bozeman, with a tentative plan to stay a year to get residency and apply for graduate school at UM or MSU. What area did you live in? Any suggestions?

I just used a painted shader as a mask for the tree distribution shader, really pretty easy to do. I'm sure there's tutorial's somewhere around here, though  I don't think it's nearly as complicated as it might seem  ;D

Thanks, I suspected it was some sort of paint mask shader.....off to see if I can figure that one out. Your image is great. I am working on a project to finally complete objectless file started way back in version 9. Still have saved tuts from way back then. Once a nut, always a nut. :)

I can only recommend UM. Bozeman is in a great location and MSU is nothing to frown upon, but I left my heart in Missoula... Friendly and walkable town - the river runs thru it - and easy access to tons of wilderness. Glacier NP is just 3 hours up the road. UM is a wonderful school with a beautiful campus and some outstanding faculty, but under a bit of administrative mismanagement right now unfortunately resulting in lower enrolment and therefore budget cuts...

Go Griz! Any specific questions, just ask.
