This is a very nice scene. Great desert atmosphere/lighting. Are the stones (the big ones) procedural or objects ?

Largest stones are also fake stones with a fairly (you might say "overly" ) complicated texture. There are six different sized fake stones, two of them are sand size.

I like this scene.
Just one question it looks a little washed out. Not much contrast. Was this direct from Terragen?

Very much as the straight render, except I blurred the prop in post and adjusted for a small amount more contrast.
I suspect the look you see comes from haze settings, a low sun position and redsky decay set to 5.0 and sunlight at default of 5.0.

T4 seems to react differently to redsky decay settings than T3. The render seems to get quickly dark with higher settings unless the sun gets boosted.

Just for an experiment I set redsky decay to a super extreme 35.0. The sun had to be set to over 500.0 to get the light level up on the surfaces.



This one is exactly as rendered.

Yes there might be differences in the new version.

Just curious did you tried a render with the default settings?
Those settings are so close related to each other maybe that would look more... contrasty(?) ?

Actually I probably don't see what you see,  ;)  in the sense of a problem, that is. I think there is lots of contrast in the foreground. The background mountains have less but that is a natural effect of the haze. Perhaps the lighter color choices for the rock and sand appear like low contrast.


I'll try one at default haze and redsky and see what it looks like.

Exactly as rendered default atmosphere.   atmo quality at 48 samples on all these.

Interestingly the super redsky decay version renders fastest in under 2 hours, while this default version takes almost 3 hours.

The render time difference is interesting.
Oshyan would say probably that you don't need so much atmo samples especially if you have "defer atmo" on :)

I actually arrived at 48 by test starting out with 8 and going to 16 and 32. 48 was a bit over the top but the render time of 3 hours or less seems very reasonable to me.

Yeah repeat that ones again after you begin an animation with 800 frames  :(  :D

Sometimes there is no other way around much unfortunately. For a still i don't care so much too.
In my last two animation tests i used the VR kinda aproach to get fast render times,
by attaching spherical Terragen rendered images on a sphere object and rendering the animation in Lightwave.

Red Sky Decay should not act differently than TG3, but what you *may* be seeing is the influence of *Ozone*, which is set to 0.5 by default in TG4.

I guess my Ozone setting is probably the cause because I used an Ozone setting of 0.6 in my renders until the last default atmosphere example render at 0.5.

Here is one last one I happened to do previously with Ozone set way up to 5.0 , redsky decay at 5 and haze at 1.
