...if I ever get all my files moved over, trying to pare them down as I move stuff...

Congrats, Bobby! What about an external HD for all your files? No need to move them anymore.

Thanks Hannes....They would still require moving from this net box where they've been living..a bit to broke for an EHD at the moment but it is a plan.

Great to hear you've got your new beast, have fun, looking forward to some great renders!

Was getting a lot of crashes last night so I put it to bed. Most(3 of 4) were population related. I will bash on but have a gig tonight so will be gearing my life to that today. Will start fresh tomorrow. Wondering if the .net thing that shows up when installing it is there as this machine is off line and doesn't get the auto updates this computer does.

Have you made sure the graphics drivers are the latest Bobby?

Well the guy who built an sold it to me is an AMD rep so I was assuming they were...I'll look at my number and check the site.  Can't do the auto update as this box is staying off line so it'll be a manual check. Getting ready for a gig tonight so depending on how cranked up or tired I am when I get home it's a job for tomorrow. One should never assume....

O K the installed driver date is 4/19/2011 and ver.  8.850.0.0 and checking for 64 bit win 7 which is what I have the ver. is 13.12.
My question is, If I dl the driver will it dl an  exe or some thing or just try to install it on this machine?
Dumb query I know but I've always let the computer handle the thinking on that.

It will probably download an installable file, most likely a .exe. It will tell you what kind of file it is when you save it in your browser. I would not recommend using any built-in driver updater in the ATI control panel app.

And yeah, with drivers that old, I'm not surprised there might be issues! Odd that the guy did not install the latest...

Well that was what I am hoping for...would play bloody hell with the card  a 5400 series one if it installed. I'm gonna check with don in the A M as I'm beat...was a good gig, got 70 buck for 2 seemingly short sets and a ride home to boot. But for some reason the playing wore me out tonight....usually energizes me....Thanks for the help Oshyan...g'night.

To top it off it has when I was on this other computer, crashed and rebooted on Wed., and then on the final crash of a pop yesterday instead of closing TG4 which is normal, it did the illegal shutdown and reboot routine. Could this also be a graphics card issue or do I need to call Don and complain ? I am going to in any case as even though inexpensive, it was a large part of my monthly operating cash flow.
this is from before the crashes.
I did this sans veg to check the clouds, water and the erosion plug in. The sky took the bulk of that render time,

Big waves, Bobby. Crashes will always be part of us, I think. I recently also had another few when RTP-viewing a closeup of quite a pop of grass. But I always anticipate that and save before using RTP (and also very regularly).

Good advice and I do try that but I think there needs to be a tech tweak of this box as the graphics card driver is from 2011. Doesn't seem to me that the seller/builder was overly conscientious.
The scene that crashed had no geometry and only 2 surfaces, ground and road, no Fractal terrain as I was pop testing only at that time.

Well......My friend came by to do some hardware and deep memory tests and discovered a bad stick and removed it. Put in a newer video card and all suddenly it wouldn't even boot up...so he took it home and will figure it out and have it back working by Tuesday...hopefully...so no TG work for a while I guess...but soooon. At his house it was running rock solid, said he couldn't make it crap out no matter what....so eventually I'll be back in the saddle.

This is just too much problem with the box. It is a bit alarming... ???

I'm being as always, patient as being any other way gives you ulcers...he's an accredited professional(works for AMD)so I'm confident by Tuesday I'll have a working computer, but son't expect an e mail before then as the files I was gonna send you are now at his shop.
