Creek WIP

This WIP represents a number of things; first always do full res crops of sensitive areas like water first and act on impluses like replacing the water reflection with a softened Reflection shader and checking cloud shadowing...and at that point(test crop)I'd have added a wider SS to the sun and a re seed of the clouds so the foreground isn't in shadow...but that is I guess what a WIP is for. Not as painful on the new computer....in the waiting for more RAM mode but running fine on less complex scenes.
The image as is often the case, is loosely based on luc's image linked below as when uninspired I  surf my "Hero Galleries" till one tells me I should try that....this one did just that.

And I can already see the similarity! Nice so far!

I think it's better to wait where this goes before critisizing - good luck!  :)

Thanks for that share to Luc's gallery. Some great examples there for sure!

I am sure you see what I see with the lilies population kind of bleeding into the side banks and a few are under water as well as some pads too high maybe. I know you will fine tune this later. I think you are doing a great thing here explaining all of this. I for one, cannot do object populations very well, even though I try and try. That does not diminish my desire to keep at it though. Is the lily pop anchored to the water or SSS?

Great effort. Nice trees too!

Thanks for the input guys...
@ luvsmuzik...lily pad leaves are often partially submerged and the pop  is in fact a bit wide for the stream and I didn't mask it so when my big computer recovers from uninstalling the horrid AVG anti-virus program I'll get back to this but for now the Corsair sits silently at my left elbow...sigh.
When I uninstalled AVG it required a restart and after 1/2 hour of it sitting silent I hard shut it down and upon starting up I get an error screen telling me there was an overclocking error and I have to enter SET UP to fix it which I am totally not mentally equipped to do....so I await my friends reply to my cry....
@Nils...yeah this  was naught but a rough sketch/layout test...will get back to this later.

Well he got back in town and tried talking me thru it but no luck so this weekend sometime he'll stop by and figure it out...so I'm still messing about with ideas on the dell(slopoke) computer...3rd time I've reinstalled TG4 on it...hope it's the last time I have to.

If the hard drive inspector looked at my emergency withdrawal old one that I ran script animations on, he would say............"How, how, how...did you ever do that on that?" Isn't withdrawal fun?

In reality having 2 mistresses, music and 3D; when one is down the other just gets more attention...it's all good.

good work  ;D

Thanks, and if I ever get my workstation up and running I'll finish this. My dell optiplex 780 barely loads this scene..

...I hard shut it down and upon starting up I get an error screen telling me there was an overclocking error...

Bobby, this happened to me recently. I was forced to do a hard reboot (a bad idea but sometimes there's no other way) and I saw this overclocking error message when it started up. It might have taken me to Setup after that but I didn't change any settings, I simply exited and restarted the machine. It's been fine since. Have you tried that?

I suspect that the computer was wrong to show the "overclocking error", when what it should be saying is that the computer wasn't properly shut down. But it was a bit scary to see this message on a machine that isn't overclocked...

Thank for replying Matt, I called the dude that built it and he talked me thru that stuff but re boot produced the same result so yesterday he cam by and replaced the mobo and it's running lovely now. We wound up previously replacing everything else he originally built into it plus a bad stick of RAM and the mobo seems to have been the instigator.

Well I got a render out of the new box and a bit disapointed at how long it took 9+ hours...and I got off track from the first WIP. C&C most welcome.

Hardware problems sucks, especially if you don't have many money to repair fastly (is my case only?).
For me, the creek is already made. You can potentially improve the scene now: some bushes or trees variations in background if you want,
some fake stones under the water and grass maybe?
just some ideas. nice work...
Hmmm, what version of Terragen does God use?

luvsmuzik

Mr. bass hiding far bank, third pad from the right. Very nice render!

re:  hardware, yeah money is the hard point; due to low cash I was backed into an AMD cpu which although it has 8 cores is nowhere near an i7 which is what I wanted. and I still only have 1/2 the RAM I wanted.

I'm liking the creek as well. There are in fact fake stones on the creek bed but perhaps textured too dark. I see them because I know they're there, thanks for that.

I have 2 species of willow popped and a weeping one front right and a single younger one of the popped willows left so I think I'll work on varying the colours on the existing pops...
