I tried to get something like the swimming islands of Little Lake Arber in Bavarian Forest, Germany (see first picture). C&C welcome.

Woah! That is pretty darn close. Maybe add some transparency to your water like your example image. I have not tried it, but I am told you can throw some moss on the rock, by anchoring one of the file share free mosses to that big rock. Or shade it with a greenish powerfractal through transform input in color function?
Very well done!

that foreground is amazing, but not a fan of the bright green trees on the hills

ahhhhhhh.........the first image was a photo.......had me fooled........

Nice image, I'd say a great starting point. Needs some irregularity on that island, maybe a small amount of the Fractal warp shader, and some 'trash' around the shore which if you are pop limited  maybe with a craftily created image map.

Nice start!
I agree with Bobby. Curious where this goes.

There has already been a little fractal warp on the islands, but I gave it a little more. And I added some weed that is floating around the islands.

Nice tweaks! Like the fake stone addition too. Your water already has good reflection, but I would back the roughness off just a tad maybe.

Oshyan

Quite nice. I only feel the lighting overall is rather flat. Not much shadow in the trees where you would really expect it, for example. Indeed you lost even some of the contrast from the first version. What is the lighting and GI setup here?

Agree with Oshyan. Otherwise, keep trying to match your reference. A great way to create good images.

Better but re: the lighting, I agree a bit flat, just keep trying to match your reference image is the best way as  Hannes suggested.

I worked a little on clouds, atmosphere and lighting. And I changed the fractal warp of the islands again.

Dune

Floating vegetation around the island is a very nice touch.

Yeah, I really like that and will remember it for future implementation...
