Hi Everyone! I was wondering if anybody could recommend settings for render optimization for preview rendering? If there is a good resource or thread that's helped you, I'd love to check it out. I'm spending way too much time waiting for previews to render so I can see where I'm at in the terrain. I've turned down micro-polygon detail down to .2 and that's helped a little, but makes it hard to see details. I'm also making sure to keep down anti-aliasing and the resolution. Any recommendations in this area would be very welcome!

If tou're using TG4 have you tried RTP. I let the 3D preview resolve to 80% while in the render tab and turn that on. Depending on your monitor you can get it pretty large by dragging the 3D preview to it's max for your set up and it's marginally faster for some stuff than an actual render. Be warned that some things will render differently than you see in the RTP.

Yes, I'm using TG4. Trying it now and it's a huge help. Thanks!

That's a long shot but... you can also turn off the atmosphere. This obviously makes rendering faster and if there's nothing extraordinary happening in your atmo this saves some time. Cloud shapes and colors will still be visible though.

If you have any other planets with atmospheres (like I do now) you can also turn them off for some gain.

As N-drju said, turn of the atmosphere. You can change the background color temporarily to a light blue so you still have reflection from the sky. It will considerably speed up test rendering too.
If your'e using a lake, disconnect the water shader temporarily and use a default shader instead with a dark blue color.
