I feel this shader could use a update now in 2019 2020 (Still stuck in 2019 apparently lol). It's results are very blocky. I'm not sure if this is a continuity issue, or what, but I feel they could be more organic and smoother. I use this function all the time and with soft stuff it always produces angles.
Upping variation helps, but only because I think it kills the warp effect.
