Vertical movie

I always wonder why people film vertically with their smartphones, while horizontally is much more logical given our horizontal field of vision. Still, it can produce a very nice result, provided you're a director like Damien Chazelle. In the movie theatre it wouldn't work but on my big screen it looks beautiful.

That's a great video, and shows what you can do when you know what you're doing (and are very talented).

It's funny that most people don't think to rotate their phones - I saw a great quote once to the effect "the end of the world will be filmed in portrait mode"

If it's the end of the world, it doesn't matter if it's in portrait mode; no one will ever see it.

Some gives me anxiety in some shots because of how obscured they are when I'm used to seeing so much more. Some shots being aligned to objects on screen is also disconcerting for cinematography. Kinda hard to watch imo.

Maybe it's easier to hold a phone vertically when shooting one-handed? Don't know, but it bothers me too, esp. considering the high quality of today's phone cameras. Like looking at the world through a keyhole.
