I was wondering once again what you can do with spheres. Made a dent with a rotated simple shape and vdisp, and added some other displacements. Populations were tricky; I needed to rotate the pop over X by 50º.

Interesting. the cut away displacements are cool not so sure about the domes - maybe too geometric?

I smoothed the tophalf of the right sphere, hence its 'geometricness'. I guess I could have stacked a lot more spheres, or warped them very much. Just a test anyway.

Very cool! I like the cave-like look on the left side absolutely, only the bubble on the right side looks a bit strange.
