I'm not too happy with the surfacing on this one yet so I'm going to keep working on that. I may also dump the cirrus layer or at least make it smaller. Only post work was to change the contrast.

I like the surfacing.

you need little bit more variation in color variation....nice work!

The surfacing isn't that bad at all. Maybe you could try to add a few layers of fake stones in different sizes. Increasing the color variation option in the stones shader gives nice results :) I like the almost white atmo, it's not unrealistic at all. Good job, looking forward to see your update.

I think the surfacing is fine. At any rate if you look at real rocks any way you will observe that they have a base color and between three to four other colors and that the over all appearance or the rock is quite even and in cases (Rock type dependent) looks quite bland. In any case (Sorry to those who know this already) what you are seeing are different minerals and their distribution through out the rock, hence the colors. If you look at slate for example there is no variation in color the same gose for other rock types to.

Yes, there are rocks with a great deal of variation in color but these are not representative of what is commonly found, if other people in this community have made different observations that is fine, I can only state what I my self have seen.

Regards to you.

kinda how I pictured the rocky outcroppings on Dune.
The world is round... so you have to use spherical projection.

I think that surfacing is quite well done. I'd also suggest adding some fake stone layers etc. You might even consider some plants at the base of your ledge where water would tend to collect.

Virex

Well, you could twitch up the colour difference a bit. Just make the diferent collours a tad more apart. But by all means, do NOT overdo it because it's already great.

Here is an update.  Haven't actually changed anything except for adding a powerfractal for some fine detail. I'm probably still going to add some rocks too.

dhavalmistry

little bit better....I like the fine details....

Tangled-Universe

That's already a great improvement :)
Looking forward to see the next one with the stones.
Perhaps you'll find my Strata wIP treatment useful for creating fake stone surfaces.

Here is the next update. I added two stone layers. GI was set to 3 this time and the there are some strange looking black areas in this one.

Seth

the fake stones are very good and add realism ! i really like this render... it's getting better and better each time !

Very good.  How high up is the camera, for curiosity's sake?

The camera is about 18 meters up.
