This would be a final except for the dark shadow running down slope in the middle of the image. Still trying to figure it out. Toboggan was done with Cinema 4D. Trees are Xfrog and the terrain is MtRainer_4079.

I will try to get a sled package put together and uploaded at Ashunder soon. It would consist of two runner sleds and this toboggan.

Enjoy

I very much like the lighting....but it would be much better if we could see the peak of the mountain in the background!

Love the lighting and the trees. Interesting to see the red from the tobbogan on the snow due to GI. Are the GI settings somewhat high? Also does this mean you fixed your shadow problem?

The enviro lighting settings are at about 2 for surfaces . The GI are set at 2 and 1 respectively.

As for the shadow problem I have done some simple tests with a sphere and setting the intersect to different levels and I will try to get you some .tgd's that show what I have found. The holidays have slowed me down some. In a nut shell, it seems that the shadow goes away when an object touches the surface of the intersected layer. The image that had the two sleds showed one that was touching
(No Shadow) and one that wasn't touching (Had Shadows). The intensity of the intersection setting also comes into play.

For this image I just used the smoothing and displacement settings with some micro-fake stones added.

As I said I will get those test posted next week, I still have one more thing related to the holiday to do this weekend.

Here is a link to the show I was on to talk about our troops tree recycle, where we throw the trees with a trebuchet.

Love the picture and the lighting, but it looks like to me that the toboggan is floating...doesn't it?
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

Calico's right.  Now that my attention's drawn there, it does look like it is just a couple of inches off the ground.

If you look at the back end of the sled you will see that it is partially embedded into the snow, because the sled is flat and the ground isn't there are places that are not touching. But the sled is not floating.

Great lighting and composition!  I really can't wait to see where this goes.

No matter about the sled, this is nice work.  Good render.  Good lighting.  Excellent setting.

Recommend doing something about the sled, only if it matters to your end purpose.

Very good.

Woo-Hoo! Look at you on the TV man! I REALLY want a go of/on that tree launcher! You should take it to the sea, or the lake and fire people into the water, what a ride that would be... I'm in! Where do I buy my ticket? ;)

I saw on this renders comments at TN, someone suggesting a layer of snow on the sled, now, I've tried loads of ways to displace snow on objects, with little success, (I always end up with the layer paper-thin and floating above the object at the displacement level), I've spotted the great work you done with the snow in the contest over there, there is real displacement to the snow on the objects, or so it seems to my eyes.
How was that done? I can't ask over there yet obviously but, it's really niggling at me, lol, :)

Keep it up with the Scouts, and I wish you and yours all the best for the new year!

If you think you could withstand about 3 G's I would sell you a ticket. But I would have to build a MUCH BIGGER Trebuchet in order to launch a person. ;)

If I do snow on the sled I will make the shape in Cinema 4d on the sled and make a snow layer on that shape. That is how I put the snow on the covered bridge. It is a separate model that occupies the same location as the covered bridge.

And I do plan to keep with scouting in some way as long as possible. :)

A-ha! Seperate model, I thought you'd discovered the missing link!
Well, either way it looks fantastic, as do the transparent icicles, just great, but... I can't really say that just yet, best keep the gusheries to a minimum for now. ;)

Take care, man, happy Vue year, lol.
