Exporting scene to another 3D app

Hi,

The first version of Terragen had some third party plugins developed in order to have a scene be compatible with other applications.
I use Cinema 4D as my main 3D application and used to have a plugin called Terra 4D which enabled me to import geometry, lights and camera info into the program.
I was wondering if there is a method to do this in the new Terragen with the latest release of C4D?
The plugins developed thus far are limited to the first Terragen (of which fail to work with the latest release of C4D).
For my money, it would be an obvious feature to include in any official release of the program in the near future.

I was actually about to post this same thing... lol

I agree, there should be some sort of export function, at least for heightfields or specified chunks of a fractal-based terrain.

That would be nice.

Actually, there is a way to export from TG2.    :o

;D
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

Could you please share your knowledge Calico?
Is there a way to line up the camera with the same parameters as in Terra 4D for Cinema 4D?
Is it a manual workaround as opposed to an automated process?
Exporting the terrain only is of no use to me.
And I don't have much use for the atmosphere or shaders, since this is going to be done in Terragen.
The idea is that I'd like to export out the terrain, camera and position of the sun, all as a single scene.

Oh, sorry.  It's in the Terrain files under Export and I haven't been able to use it to my satisfaction.  It's the Heightfield Export LWO.
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

Thanks Calico.
I've tried that and it exports fine (though it's a really dense mesh and there are no functions to control that).
If anyone else has any ideas to line up the camera and light it would be much appreciated.
It's a long shot I know.
If the developers happen to read this post, could you please consider this idea.
I work in film post production, and it would be a really useful asset.

there is a plugin fpr TG2 to 3dMax but it only imports terragen lights and cam info...

Improving the export and 3rd party application interoperability is definitely an important area we'll be working on for future development. Right now we're really focused on the engine overhaul and getting multithreading solid so that everyone can enjoy a nice speed boost. With a few other polishes and a stable rendering engine, that will essentially be what the final version consists of. After that we have a number of areas of development to deal with, but import/export is near the top of the list since it's important to so many people and is particularly key to one of our core markets - the effects industry.
