This is my first post of a render.  I'm using the free version cause I don't have the cash right now, so the quality is a little lower than I would like it.  Also I'm still learning how textures work, so the cliff isn't textured yet.

Any suggestions or criticisms would be welcome.

dhavalmistry

it has a "silent hill" feeling....very nice!

Interesting concept, the bits of terrain coming out of the water could use a little be of attention.

Seth

the fog, just above the water, seems too dense... (but it's perhaps only my taste) it looks like clouds...

rcallicotte

...just the textures.  Can't wait to see, when you're finished.
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

I'm having trouble with texturing.  I've searched for tutorials, but I haven't found anything that helped me.  I'm trying to put a "stone" texture on the cliffs, but when I do it, it loses the ridges and becomes very flat.  What am I missing?

dhavalmistry

you are missing displacement!

That is what I thought, but I couldn't figure out how to make it work.  The cliff is already displaced the way I want it, so how do I get my image map to conform?  I don't see the way to do this.

dhavalmistry

well....since its a rather steep slope....you have a choice to make here...you can keep the displacement you have now and apply a rock texture on it as a "Plan Y" projection (make sure you get a seamless texture so you can set the Repeat X and Repeat Y options in image map shader), but I dont think it would work 100%. Your 2nd option is to use redirect shader and use powerfractals for displacement in X and Z

That is working...  Now I just need to wait for it to render again.

I don't understand why it is working.  I don't really understand the different projections.

dhavalmistry

plan Y is working??...good then....dont forget to apply small scale displacements!

Well Plan Y looked good in cropped renders just to see what it would do.  I'm doing a full render now.  It will take another few hours.  I didn't do any small displacements like you suggested, so I will probably have to render it all again.  I really need to get me a render farm. :)

Is there currently anyway to run a render from the command line?  Something like "tgd.exe lighthouse.tgd FullRender"

dhavalmistry

yea there is a tool available on this forum somewhere to take control of the whole command line thing

Darn...  It looks like I got save up to buy it before I can use the command line.  One more reason to try to pull the cash together.

ghotir

Well after the full render, the project was really stretched.  So it looks like I'm going to have to try it the other way.  We will see how it goes.
