Playing around with Luminosity, Translucency, and reflectance.  I really wish transparency would make an appearance, I can't wait to show off the underwater areas of these icebergs.  Thanks for taking a look.

a good start...I like the displacements...although you might want to turn up the translucency.

The world is round... so you have to use spherical projection.

RArcher, this is quite wonderful.  Hope you're enjoying this.  It looks like marvelous fun.

Any chance for a little lesson on how you got that ice look?

Thanks for the comments.  It is actually an extremely simple setup.  I've posted the .tgd over on Ashundar for anyone interested.

This render was done at 0.85 detail, 8 AA and 3/4 GI rendered at 1280 x 640 and took just over 24 hours.

Cool!!!  The actual TGD!   ;D  Thanks!

@RArcher - when building your terrain, did you start with the Compute Terrain and build your terrain by working up the node network or did you start from the top and work down toward the Compute Terrain?  This is somewhat complex, I think.

Calico:  I would not necessarily call it a terrain really.  It is more just a field of massive scale fake stones that have been displaced.  I started at the compute terrain node and worked my way up.  Mostly just random displacements and variations to certain heights/slopes by warping, twisting and redirecting.  Sorry it is so messy but I don't really work systematically, I just keep adding or deleting nodes till something looks nice!  Besides that, it isn't really the terrain that makes the picture, but more the fact that a single surfacing layer can give so much variation in tone.

Brilliant!  Thanks for explaining.  Considering we are some distance from the beta, I'm amazed how fantastic this is and, as you said, it's not highly complex.

I love it that I can use the TGD to understand your way of building the final product.  I learn so much by dissecting someone else's work.  Learn all kinds of things about TGD and the science / art of graphical effects.  Thanks again.

Thanks for the share, that ice looks amazing, the best yet  ;)
Smoke me a kipper I'll be back for breakfast.
