I like the POV and the model - just do what others suggested and you'll have a fantastic image

You've got a great ship there!! I like this atmosphere... but if you place the sun higher, you might get better colours.

The colors look right for the time of day been represented as dose the over all light level in the scene, in nature over all sky illumination decreases proportionally as the sun moves toward and sinks below the horizon. For the most part in real life (That I have observed) unlike software there is a general falloff in light levels towards dusk with little coloration of the landscape (Except at Magic Hour) instead it just becomes increasingly darker due to the lower light level.
All of the above aside nice image.
Regards to you.

I raised the sun to get a better overall lighting and added a bit more density into the clouds for better definition Still a WIP

While the increased light is nice for the definition of the ship, I wish there were more orange and yellow highlights to contrast the very cool colors of the scene. I still love the POV and composition, though

It looks fine. I've been out to sea and this is how it looks towards nightfall.
It would be nice to get a little more of the ship, but I wonder whether you can get all of the textures showing correctly (the 16 texture limit problem).
So this is Disney World. Can we live here?

It might add to the lighting and atmosphere is you put some lights on the ship. Dim reddish lights like lanterns or candles.

Sumptuous. Very atmospheric- I would prefer it if the galley had some sails visible though.

I think the colours in the new one give a good impression of evening/twilight but the direction of the sunbeams on the right suggest that you are using some very non-standard atmosphere settings. I wonder if you would have got a better result going back to the original version and increasing the power of the sun rather than moving it?
Smoke me a kipper I'll be back for breakfast.
