Hi Peepz,

Just brew this together in a couple of days.
Rendersettings were 0.9 @ GI 1/1 and AA 15.

Still some work to do:

Improving lighting of dark shadowy areas (probably increasing GI quality settings due to quite extreme displacements)
Adding a wet darker colored shore-line.
Figuring out why some reflections look weird (grey artefacts) Any idea Oshyan or Matt?
Of course render it bigger and more detailed! :)

This image contains 10 populations and 1 single object on the right. I created the bark-texture and bump-map myself.
Many many thanks to Moodflow for sharing his bush-group. Can't believe it why I didn't use it before :)

Crits comments and (technical) suggestions always welcome ;D

great scene!...what is the large tree model?....did you use image map for rock textures?
love the pov and terrain too!

Tangled-Universe

Thanks Inky :)

The large tree model is an Aleppo Pine. I used a much higher resolution barktexture and also made the bump map using NVidia's bumptool for photoshop since I can't run Crazybump on my 64-bit XP.

There are nog image-maps used at all. All powerfractals and strata-shaders. It's actually pretty much the same node-network as my Canyon Wall image. This time I used a powerfractal as a blendshader for the strata so they'll have some breakup. As you can see the strata don't appear at all places.

Looking good so far, shame about the reflection artefacts.
Smoke me a kipper I'll be back for breakfast.

Insane looking terrain ;D Great POV

Cool-looking image. I like the "twisted" tree, but it's a bit too obvious that the others are the same tree unfortunately. The reflection problems are probably an example of known reflection system issues which should be resolved by the improved renderer we're working on.

Well done Martin. Removing the foreground foliage and using water is a good improvement. I think having just on tree (one the right) would have been sufficient. The colors are vivid and well suited together.

Thanks Bob and Oshyan.

I understand the reflections are probably the same 'bug' like in Phylloxera's image over here?

I'm currently rendering a new version with different lighting, from the left. Looked quite promising.

Oshyan I agree with you about the trees, I'll see if I can find a model or two to replace the tree population in the background, prefer to keep the one on the right foreground though :)

Hi TU, did you use fill lighting (it looks as so).  If so, it is a bit too strong in my opinion and is likely exacerbating the reflection bug.  Otherwise, this image is spectacular.   8)

Martin, this reminds me of the terrain file I sent to you.

Nice work.  Maybe the terrain could be a little browner.  Such nice trees probably come from some rich soil.   :D
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

Thanks for the compliment John, you're right about the fill light. I indeed use one fill light opposite to the main light and I'm already rendering one with reduced strength but that effect has been cancelled due to higher GI detail/sample settings :) So I have to fiddle a bit further.
I've also tried to swith off the fill light and it did not make a difference with the reflection bug, I think it was a bit worse even.

I'm now rendering it at GI 2/2 and a higher solution and as far as I can see (it's not finished yet) the reflection bug is gone :)

Thanks too Rob. No it's not the terrain you've sent me ;D It's basically almost the same terrain as my Canyon Wall image like I mentioned before. Only added a blendshader to the strata for breakup.

The coloring of the terrain is something which still bothers me and I tend to agree with you about making it a tad browner but then the GI messes it up. So I still need to do some tests.

The trees are Aleppo Pines and grow on dry rocky slopes. So making the colors of the terrain browner is rather something artistic than accurate if you know what I mean :)

Another jaw-dropper. Nicely done.
