Not put much up around here lately - just waiting patiently for you know what!
Thought I'd try playing around with FrankB's Cracks and Gashes for fake stones file. - Thank's Frank.
The first is my favorite and has come out really well IMO. The others show what can be done with this technique depending on what image map is used. The second to last one has lots of render cell boundary lines showing. GI problem I guess?
Still, C&C welcome

Having to put these up individually due to image uploader keeps reporting images too big even though they're all well below 512K!

These are great, especially the first one.

Wow, like them all! Good patterns and structures, believable surfaces.

Nice, but it doesn't seem that the cracks and gashes are showing up as much as your Images Maps? Maybe I'm wrong? Dunno??

Seth

that's the question i was aking to myself... is that more image map results or cracks and gashes results... ?

Phylloxera

I like the numbers 1 and 5 !
Good work, I'm impressed, I want the same for Christmas !

inkydigit

These are all very good, even the one with the measles.   ;D

TGD.  What do you think?
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

Thanks for the comments folks, but most of the hard work was done by Frank B.
I agree that using image maps can appear to add more than the cracks and gashes alone, but it really is a matter of tweaking and colouring to acheive what you want. I don't have a problem using image maps where the result justifies it. However, here's one without an image map and the result is still pretty good. I'll post more later.

@Calico if you want the TGD I'll post it later when I get home (not on this pc), but really it's just FrankB's file with adjustments and appropriate maps.

rcallicotte

Yeah, but you rock.

:P

Seriously, the lighting you are using and the texturing seems very cool.  If you want to share any knowledge about it, I'm listening.

I'm always surprised by how much Image Maps can add to a TG image. Nice work.
