This is a test render for a matte-painting I was planning. The idea was some kinda of medieval grass field, maybe a little cottage or fortress on the right side. A nice semi-glowing volcano in the far back(below the large cumulus), and then one or two dragons in the open space to the left of the clouds. The grass is only shaders(pretty darn good shaders, I thought), no objects or math used. I'll render the final thing much larger so I can get in a lot of detail, but for now crit and comments would be nice.

The bigger you make it, the greater the chance for pixelation of your rays, though you probably realize that.

Nice beginning.
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

ovaflo

oh of course. I plan on increasing samples and quality for the atmosphere and clouds by alot for the final render. This was just a small test so I could make sure the composition was compatible with my mental final product.

nvseal

Nice clouds and scene set up. Are you going to add grass or is it going to be all forest?

ovaflo

I may make random patches of grass(though not a lot), but it is not going to be all forest. I plan on increasing the population of trees farther away from the camera in the distance, but near the camera I want there to be some space so that I have room to work with when painting whatever I decide on.

i hpe this is some use to you ;D

i do matte painting to well suppose terragen is kinda matte painting
but i mean with photoshop doing massive photo manipulation

I don't know if this is plained for the future but I've been thinking about this whole sample noise thing, what I'd like if its not to hard is for Terragen to have adaptive sampling which if possible should be distance based so you only get strong sampling where it is needed which should cut render times down.

Regards to you.

@ lightening
Thanks. It's funny because I actually downloaded your grass files a couple days ago with plans to experiment but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. The castle models look nice and I'll test them out, but I really am much more efficient with Photoshop, much more so then Terragen. Thanks.

@ Cyber-Angel
While that would be a nice feature, sampling is a bit too relative. Now if we added an option like max amount of sampling, it becomes more relative to the user. Because I may be fine with a scene at 64 samples, but you may prefer picture perfection(nothing wrong with that) so you wouldn't want any less then 128. That's a lot more samples, that I wouldn't want to worry about. But yeah, if there was some something more relative. Or maybe just as a check box for 'adaptive sampling' for people who don't mind the wait. Im sure it would save people some experimenting.

Sample levels are already varied with distance in the atmosphere, I believe.
