Animation functions may be disabled but you can still move the camera about manually to come up with a crude sort of animation. This is all that is needed in very simple cases.

urban_rebellion

how do you mean manually...can i render out an image sequence where the camera moves??

swiftstream

Well, you have to render each frame manually...

So it's a rather intensive process for animations longer than about a fifteenth of a second ;-).

However, somebody might write a nice piece of software that automatically edits the camera position and renders images. There will always be a way around the animation problem as long as the free version can render images. I may eventually make that software if nobody else does, but it would probably not be able to handle anything more complex than moving in a straight line...

or make a limited length or render quality or somthing we do all love planetside.....and if that brown-nosing does'nt get me into alpha testing team nothing will.

The world is round... so you have to use spherical projection.

They've already taken enough functionality out of the free version!

You have given me ideas - I could make a free version that limits the animation to a rubbish quality and a version that costs money ( :D Maybe I'll actually be able to buy T2TP) but does not limit the quality.

<cough>Erm...No...But the said plans could be implemented with the current T2TP in a rather ugly fashion, involving lots of window messages, anyway...<cough>

Don't forget that they (hopefully) might not mind crude external animation, because only TG2 will have the cool features like keyframes and the ability to say "WARNING: Your camera is in the mountain." There will be very little competition between external and internal animation with TG2, because so much of TG2 is based on mysterious "proprietary algorithms" that external software will be unable to recreate.

you two may want to get that cough check out...it could be broncitice (yea I have no idea how its spelled)

My throat is getting a bit raspy...
but then again it does give me a good excuse to stay home from work and do some rendering  ;D

[edit]
on second thought if I stay home from work I won't be able to buy Deep + Animation

Dark Fire

Perhaps the cough is related to the free edition of T2TP. Why is it always the poor who suffer from the worst illnesses?

<cough></cough>

Or perhaps it is related to HTML or XML somehow, as it always seems to come out in a similar format...

<cough></cough>

I think I've got it bad - and it's getting worse...

I apologize my humor was too much and cuased the thread to go off topic....I know you tryed your best to fight it you fought valently but stil were overcome by my greatness go now that your cough has been healed by my amazingly amazing power.

I feel fine now and, sorry, I do have a habit of helping to drag threads off-topic.

Basically, some degree of animation will probably be possible with all versions of T2TP, although Deep+Animation (requires a decent CPU and lots of £££) has the features needed for high-quality animations and the other versions don't. However, it is still very early days yet for T2TP - the command line is still broken, limiting the speed at which we can render animations anyway. You'll just have to wait and see how things develop - don't forget we are only using a 'Technology Preview', which is a long way from the final version of Terragen 2.

urban_rebellion

hey thanx for all the help...clears things up a bit. I think im going to give the old "move a camera a few metres then re-render time and time again" a go. This forum is awsome   ;D
