Just fiddled this tonight in an hour + 1 hour rendering...
Think I'm going to use these in a scene, but it still needs some work I think.

Martin

inkydigit

doesnt all look bad...maybe different seed/lighting....dunno...still looks very promising

Zylot

These are gold, expect for a perceived lack of puffiness (which i can live with, sure it's just me), and the tops, which look very weird.

rcallicotte

I like their thickness.  Not really in the mood to pick anything apart...couldn't see anything to do that, anyway.
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

with some work I think the clouds will be wonderful....

is it possible to share this clouds, I want to learn, how you create the structure of this clouds...

current: AMD 4200+, 2 GB RAM, 500 GB, Geforce 7950 GX2
2010:    AMD Quadcore 3 Ghz, 4 GB RAM, more Space, ...
2015:    256 Core CPU, 16 GB RAM, more then 20 Terrabyte and a 64Bit Terragen Verison...

Very nice! Powerful!
One think I may suggest is to increase the size of the single "puff cell", in order to reduce the graininess: the way it looks now is maybe suitable for some catastrophic event, like volcano explosion, but for clouds I would use an higher "cloud dimension"/"single puff cell dimension" ratio.

Ciao,

Yes you're absolutely right and I've been working on it already and I have to say it isn't easy.
Making clouds like these means controlling a myriad of functions all together :)

First I have to work on my Finally Spring (http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=4231.0) image and then I'll get back to this again!

Tangled-Universe

Have started from scratch again...

Still tweaking this and hope to implement this in a nice scene :)
I already have some nice ideas, not shown here yet ;D

Martin this is looking really good. Can't wait to see it in a scene. ;)

Thanks Saurav!

I was wondering: haven't seen any work from you in a while...are you still creating images with TG2? Or just alpha-testing?
I'm looking forward too something ;)

Very nice work!  This is definitely better than the original.  I would love to see a hint or two about how you achieved this :).

Of course, no problem...

Honestly there isn't something in particular what you should really do.
There are a few things I use as guideline like:

1) High cloud depth setting = low density setting (in this case 4000 for depth and 0,15 for density)

2) If there are fractal lines visible in the clouds then increase the contrast of the fractal a bit. If you increase the contrast too much you will lose fluffy shapes.
If the fractal lines are still visible then increase the contrast further, but then increase the offset slightly to get those fluffy shapes back.

3) For extra smaller detail increase the roughness of the fractal. Same story accounts for this setting as the contrast. Be careful, use small steps.

4) Keep the noise variation as low as possible for these type of clouds to get a bit of a cauliflower look. Too low can result in fractal lines.

5) Keep buoyancy >1 for good volume of clouds.

6) Clumping of variation controls the fractal edges as far as I know. The higher the setting the denser the edges of the fractal and thus clouds will be. Most of the times this setting is lower than the buoyancy setting.

I hope this will be of any help :)

You might try this - http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=3691.msg46623#msg46623  I'm not sure how close to these settings TU's file is, but it looks very similar to this.

Thanks, both of you.  I have followed similar steps before and have gotten somewhat close to this result, but I guess it just needs more fine-tuning.

Not even close to it ;) :P
