Spam? Frankly I'm not terribly impressed given the existence of this: http://www.infinity-universe.com/Infinity/

yeah that's only cause it uses your guys's Terragen engine, spam much?, would it be so hard to give another game a chance?, it's not like i'm asking you to stop wanting to play Infinity.

Seth

you come in here, don't say hello, and don't speak about TG but instead, you link us to a game...
what do you think ? what did you expected us to say ?

Welcome to our forums, nice game?

hehehe you linked a game, not a prOn website ! stop dreaming ;)

are you pretending to be a newbie to the net etiquette ?
before linking any exterior website on a forum, we use to say hello and do a little presentation...
but i am only a user in here... not the police of good behavior... so... i hope some will like your game.

Well this is a forum regarding Terragen so that's a pretty reasonable expectation that posting a game here with no prior acknowledgment to the community would involve Terragen in some way, this isn't a gaming forum after all.
Good to see someone using PhysX for something other than a collision detection engine though.

Infinity is using terragen to render the graphics? WTF?

Sounds to me like the worst way to build a game engine ever. Infinity needs speed, Terragen needs quality.

Sure they may share some algorithms or something, but I don't think the majority of the code is the same.

I highly doubt the accuracy of that statement.

PG

I don't think it's using it to as a rendeing engine, and indeed that would not be possible without access to the source code. I would assume that the terrain is generated through Terragen. Where does it actually say about terragen? I can't see it.

Terragen isn't used for anything in infinity AFAIK, all the terrain etc. is done with their own procedural code. It's done in the same way as terragen's (to a degree, in that both are procedural - more than that I cannot say) but none of that terrain is pre-rendered.

PG

Yeah I thought that was a bit weird :D You'd have to have terragen running in the background and messages being sent between the two programs giving instructions to create terrains and export the heightfield. lol.

Infinity and Terragen have no relation, except that they are both rendering nice-looking terrain and planets. ;) Some Infinity images (prototypes or concept art) may have at one time included Terragen imagery, but as far as I am aware all Infinity images now use entirely in-game procedural systems in realtime to get those impressive results.

The scenegraph for these types of games must be collosal at runtime.
