No trees this time!
I tried to create some ice and snow material. I found that using a luminosity setting of 0.1 with a blueish tint together with a reflective shader produces a nice (fake) sss effect on the ice. It doesn't work in every lighting condition.

Btw, does anyone know how to create that glittering effect on snow?

Pretty good!  Thanks for the tip about snow.  This is useful.

About the strata - I don't like it, since it takes away from your lovely scene.  Otherwise, this reminds me of Ice Station Zebra.   

Specular settings should help with glitter.

Looks real nice.  For the glittery effect increase the specular roughness setting in the reflective shader.  As well increasing the translucence helps a fair bit with snow and ice.

Nice work Hannes. I think you chose good colors for the snow. The luminosity is slightly too high I think, though it is a nice trick

No you'd have to decrease the specular roughness to get glittery effect. The lower this setting the smaller and brighter the highlights will be (bright depends on strength of course). The higher this setting the more "diffuse" the specularity will become.

Thank you. The strata has already a breakup, but maybe it's not enough.
I tried to play with the specular roughness, but as you said increasing the value didn't work. I'm going to try to decrease it after applying a very small pf displacement. Let's see.
