Not the first time I've tried to do an image like this, but this has been the most successful attempt so far.  Still it seems something is missing...

Trees from Lightning and Cyphyr.

Thanks for taking a look and any comments or suggestions.

Wow! It looks very realistic. I like the rocks a lot. How did you create them?
The darker trees look a bit strange, but all in all a beautiful image.

Great image, love the rock texture. Thanks for using my Scotts Pines, great to see them in use :). Although I have to agree that they do look a little odd there. Maybe try using a slightly lighter image for the needles texture and take a look at "real" Scotts Pines, they tend to clump together in small groups. Make yourself an density map, mostly black with white "splotches" either procedurally or just paint it in PhotoShop.

Rock faces are nice, trees are well distributed and the clouds are realistic.  I like the water okay, too.  Maybe the trees could use a little more translucency, but the direction of the lighting might contribute to this end result.  One other thing I think would be nice - ground cover.  Pines tend to shed and the ground would be less than "clean".

This image has great potential.

There is something wrong with the surfaces on the trees though.  Maybe the translucency or diffuse color is set too high?

There is also something up with the lighting I can't quite put my finger on.

I really like the surface displacements and clouds.

I think that you need to get more variety in your trees.  As some have said, I would consider bringing their color closer together, but you might also be able to get it by adding more populations with shades between the two extremes that you have now.  Also, while the rock texture has good general shape, it doesn't have much detail and would also benefit from more specularity.

Overall, though, I agree that this image has lots of potential.

SHIT!!! Can someone please teach me how to use the voronoi function to create wonders like that?!?!? :'(
A link to some tutorial could be of some help... :)

Thanks for all the comments.  I definitely agree with pretty much everything said and can see some very easy (and not so easy) fixes to bring this to the next level.  Most of the surfacing is pretty generic so far, so adding more detail is the least of what I can do, I am also thinking that a closer POV might be more interesting as well.

Ro-nin:  Everything I know about voronoi came from reading, and re-reading, and re-re-reading Tangled-Universe (Martin's) Canyon wall tutorial that can be found here and over at Ashundar in the downloads section.

Thanx!! ;D

Partial update.  Zoomed in much closer, adjusted the trees, added ground cover for some interest, added more detail to the rock face, changed the lighting completely to add more shadows.  Unfortunately when it hits the water at the base of the cliffs the render crashes on my work machine.  Hopefully if another project ever finishes on my home machine, it will handle this scene better.

cyphyr

Looking good but check the opacity map on the Scotts Pine, I think its got its self reversed .

Looking nice :D
The rocks look like plastic to me though :-\ or did you want to have this look intentionally?
I hope you will be able to finish your image soon :)

I have to agree about the plastic rocks :D other than that this new point of view is looking better let's hope you can get past the crash at the waterline.

I used Voronoi to make the crack in this "Fissure" image used in a recent Ashundar contest:

You can get the .tgd here:
http://www.ashundar.com/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item447

If you pull the camera away from the rockface you can see the overall Voronoi structure.
Smoke me a kipper I'll be back for breakfast.

Thanks Mr. L.  Always willing to learn how TG2 works in one yet another way.
