Can someone with experience importing terragen trees into modo offer some advice about how it works?

Also, I've got the same question about XSI. There's a huge price difference between modo and XSI and so it's an important consideration, aside from how well TG works with either.

Thanks.

I don't believe that you can import Terragen objects (.tgo) files into Modo at all.

There's not really such a thing as a Terragen Tree. Almost all objects rendered within Terragen are created in another package and imported into Terragen for rendering. They can then be saved as TGO objects but other than changing basics like scale and the image maps applied as textures there's no object editing in Terragen. Pretty sure no one has created a TGO converter yet, although it should not be too difficult for someone with the right kind of knowledge to do... er maybe .:)

I modified my post. How about XSI?
Thanks.

the only program that deals with terragen trees ie tgo files is terragen if you want to import trees into modo or xsi use file formats such as wavefront 3ds and lightwave

There is a .tgo editor available. You can import/edit .tgo's but they can only be exported as .obj and the more common filetypes I believe.
The list of model files it can import is huge.

Yep, OK. Thanks.
The 4.211 update has the new .tgo format and is obtained from going to Help/Updates in 3D Object Converter.

Hmm had no luck with v4.2, so I DL'd the v4.211 update and it does indeed load a .tgo object (I made a simple box) but I cant export as an obj in demo mode unless I use the "I want to be a Machine" Demo (*.obj) option and although this imports into Terragen all I get is a single point that will not scale. Maybe the paid version will work better but in reality I see little use for exporting tgo objects to use in other packages.
