Will this have a theatrical release?
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

The trailer is cool, although the movie will lose all relevance once we all survive the year 2012 :P.

Well the thing is the Mayans said 2012 would be a time of great change, they didn't say anything about the end of the world.
The world is round... so you have to use spherical projection.

darthvader

the world is really going to end a two weeks after the mayan calender ends, that way we all think it was some sort of hoax but the...BOOM...end of the world :P

Well the thing is the Mayans said 2012 would be a time of great change, they didn't say anything about the end of the world.

"In the book The Maya Prophecies by Adrian Gilbert and Maurice Cotterell it says that according to the Mayans the sun changed it's magnetic pole's 12.august 3114 B.C. As a consequence of this the Earth must also change it's poles, but this happens long after the sun's pole change. The Mayan calendar says that the eath's magnetic field will change dramatically 21.december 2012. They claimed that this will lead to the end of all civilization's as we know it."

"Scientist says that if this change happens along the old magnetpole-axis it will not have any big consequences, but the most likely way it will happen is that the magnetpoles will travel fast around the earth. A change like that will have enormous consequences for the life on our planet."

This is just something I found when I did a search with google. It was in Norwegian so sorry for the bad translation.

The Earth's poles are due to switch soon (with soon being in geological time)...
It may have consequences - the magnetic field, which protects us from the dangerous levels of radiation in space, will be very erratic and weak during the change. (For those of you who don't know, the field is progressively getting weaker at the moment, and I think there has been a large anomaly near South America since the 1970s).

Anyway, I doubt the poles will flip in 2012 - geological time is long...

(BTW, correct anything I've said, if it's wrong - this is all off the top of my very tired head).

I agree with everything Dark Fire.  Geologically time frames are huge, and never predictable.  California was predicted to slide into the ocean 30 years ago, or perhaps 3000 years from now!  As far as the calendar significance:  perhaps they could only extrapolate it so far and just stopped!  The worlds first printer jam of biblical proportions.

Or:  Planet-X will come screaming through, and we all die horrible deaths!  aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrggggghhhh !!!   :P ??? ;D

"The movie script is supposed to be so good, and the potential to be the
summer's biggest, it started a bidding war against the studios which Sony won at last."

Sounds promising, but I hope they do it right this time.
I hope nothing survives :P

Yea, but they still didn't get the friggin' giant waves right!  :-\  It would be nothing but a giant influx of whitewater with no discernable surface, which I think would look just as scary.

Here is the same trailer but in HD 720p.
I think the water effects are amazing.

I belive ScanlineVFX is the studio behind all the effects shown in this trailer.
They have lots of impressive stuff in their gallery.
