Hi,

as promised here's a little teaser from the "Cumulus Atmosphere Pack".
This tgd has been tuned specifically for close ups on the big clouds. You can see all the little details it has, plus a few whispy strands here and there. Other than that, I'll let the image speak for itself:

 :o awesome!  :o

I think you're going to make many many of us VERY happy  ::)

Looking good! I would personally prefer a little less wispiness on the edges, but regardless, they are the closest I've ever seen someone come to Luc's.

Thanks guys!

O-B: it's really easy to reduce the whispiness if you don't like it. They way I've implemented this you will have full control over how many details you wish to see and how soft or strong they appear. The example image was based on my preferences, of course, but it doesn't have to be like that. The idea is that I wanted to go beyond the Luc cloud technique, by providing "switches" for small size detail and detail whispiness. In order to better demonstrate that difference, I have created a view and scene similar to one of Luc's (as you may have noticed)

Cheers,
Frank

I'm wondering every time when I look at those clouds - how many samples (atmo/clouds) are needed in order to render without noise :D

Excellent Franck  :)

Very similar (maybe even better) to my clouds v2 (http://lucbianco.free.fr/jalbum/Terragen%202/2007/slides/TGD823.jpg)

Thank you Luc, that really means something to me :-)

that would be atmo 60 and cloud ~700 (+/- 100, depending on the cloud)

Hi Franck

I don't know about your technic but here the basis for mine:

A density fractal (with lead in scale = 4x the feature scale) connected to a cloud layer via a colour adjust shader (gamma between 0.1 to 0.2)

But the most important is "master" the fractal seed ... your technic will be a winner if you can give a "wanted" shape of the overall cloud whatever the seed value !

For that I have find a workaround (by playing with distance shader) in my clouds v4 (storm over islands picture http://lucbianco.free.fr/jalbum/Terragen%202/2008/slides/TGD906.jpg) but it is still not very accurate.

yes, that's similar to my setup, too. However, the fine tuning is the hardest part.
The right seed is still important, but my technique has split the "chance" factor in three adjustable parts, so that there is some level of control on that chance factor.

Frank

60/700 that's quite a lot. Right now I'm rendering some cumulus with 128/500. I'll show my results at the forum right after it's finished rendering.

What about acceleration cache? Do you always turn it off for rendering such clouds?

Hi

Attached the tgd used to make the clouds into http://lucbianco.free.fr/jalbum/Terragen%202/2007/slides/TGD823.jpg

Feel free to use it for your pictures...

Get the mop and bucket. Calico's going to wet himself! ::)
