I am still playing around with layered rocks. Here's my last result:

This is really cool, the twisting rocks along with the strata layers is kinda freakin me out. The green tinted transparency fits here too.

Nice and clean.  Good color and great lighting.
So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?

Very impressive strata and coloring. If it is not too much to ask, just what is your TG2 recipe for this lovely layered earth/rock cake?

Sweet. I'll take a look at this when I get back from work. I'm actually working  on a canyon scene with a guiding hand from TU so it'll be cool to get some layered effects like these into it.

Now I get your idea ,-) Good work so far!

arisdemos

Your strata is so impressive that I will be sure and use it like right now, and I will post whatever is produced with credit given to your procedure. Thanks.

Thanks for the file, nice approach.
One drawback I've found though is that by using such extreme displacements you cant apply fake stones to these scenes. Can you?

mr-miley

Wouldn't you be able to add a compute terrain node after all the displacement and then add your fake stones etc? Mind you I may well be talking out of my backside (as per)  ;D

I love the smell of caffine in the morning

DJ

Fake Stones are exactly the problem that I am working at the moment.
Thank you Miles for your idea, I will try this.

tried that with limited success, the stones are there but the shapes are still very distorted and more like patches of colour on the terrain. Increasing size just makes them worse.

DJ

I made the same experience.
It seems there is principally a problem to combine redirected terrain with fake stones.
