Hey everyone, it occured to me that I haven't posted an image for a while so I thought I could share some of my little experments with you guys. all C&C welcome :) more to come

Nice job, overall.  I think your water is a bit too blue on the second one, but the first looks great.

the first render is great... maybe try a similar lighting with that render in the 3rd one so the planet and craters are a little more defined and no so bright...

the exposure might.. but what is the sunlight strength set at?...


also for that last render, it will look good with craters.. and maybe moving the 2nd planet down so its all in the render?...

with some starts it look look great!!!

The sun setting is whatever the default setting is, though I'll tone it down when I do the next render of that image. for the last image  I'm trying to add craters but since it is not anywhere close to 0,0 it been kind of tough becuase never seem to show up. I got close once but it screwed up the fake stone shader. I was thinking of loading a heightfield with craters but they only have x and y axis so I can't lower it. Coudl it be done with a tranform shader?

Wow, cool work Will.
To adjust the height of a heightfield choose "create heightfield operator" ---> "adjust vertical". Connect the operator between the heightfield generator and heightfield shader.
This should work, at least it does for me  ;D

If you have trouble placing heightfields/objects in front of your camera:
Add same heightfield coordinates as camera coordinates. Then raise your camera a bit and let it face downward. Zoom out a little until you see the boundary box of the heightfield in the render preview. Select the heightfield (double triple clicking whatever...it's a pity sometimes  :P) and move it to your desired position.
Then press "view camera", NOT "set camera"! to return to your original pov.

Hey I though some people might want use of that planet that I have used in a lot of my render, its my genraic earth like planet so here is clip file.

Just a quick update, I've added some stars (they need to be smaller in my opinion though) and make the surace a tad darker. I'm still having trouble with those pesky craters though.
