There was a pretty cool beach at the end of the movie Contact. I challenge someone to render an image of it. I'm trying to find a screen shot of it. I'll have to dig up the movie and take a frame capture. But anyone who's seen the movie knows what I'm talking about.

Go for it guys. I'd give it a whirl, but I'm kind of a newb. I'm still learning.

That scene was rather colorful and the local footage was well sun lit while the sky was dark.

So can you do it?  :)

Confusoid

Hell no! I barley touch Terragen. PC is out of date and Terragen lacks crashing waves/suds which i believe were here and there if i recall that scene correctly. Also the sky could probably be done with some clever photoshop work painting nebulas here and there and using Knoll Light Factory for the very nice star effects. Using the background node for importing the space work. Several bright local lights could probably do well for the sun illusion. Perhaps a environment light node?

Hmmm, looks like a sci-fi movie with bad graphics.
I could do this, though I do need some more bushes.
Howgh!

Actually at the time Contact was released in 97, the film had some very nice SFX at the time it was released. Weta Digital and ILM had a lot to do with it. The screen captures do not do any justice there. I am not really a fan of Carl Sagan but it being based on his novel overall it was a entertaining and well acted film.

The Film was good, as far as i can remember...
Remaking this scene would basically just need the right objects and a good artwork for the background.

I didn't see the film but the screen shots look fairly easy to reproduce in TG. With the possible exception of the shooting stars.
Smoke me a kipper I'll be back for breakfast.

Goms! How'd you get the shoreline to look like it's breaking on the beach like that?  :o All my renders just have a perfectly straight, unnatural-looking line. Do tell!

It's just the small slope from the beach. ;)
The displacement of the water shader makes it look like this. Also its possible to create Waves along the Beach.
Shall i create an example file for this Island?

Just a few points of walkthru would help, moreso than a tgd file. I wouldn't know what to look for. I know my way around all the controls. I just don't know what they all do.
