Morning dew
April 07, 2009, 03:34:52 AM
Hi,
just wanted to test some of the grasses that I brought to terragen. I used specular on some of them to produce this "glittering".
I posted the grass and flowers right here:

Nice colors. Nice lighting. A little fuzzy, though. Not sure why.
So this is Disney World. Can we live here?

I think the fuzziness comes from the softer AA algorithm I chose. I now sharpened in Photoshop and also made a croprender for the upper right area to remov the noise and bring some rays in.
About the tree - like almost every plant in my renders, the tree is selfmade. A combination of Xfrog and Cinema4D work.

Very nice striking light on the right. Smart to render that part separate for the rays.
I like the models on the right-foreground as well.
The specularities on the grasses could be a bit weaker and especially rougher without losing the morning dew look of them.
The right-foreground plants look very nice!
In overall good work

I think I would have to use very high for the grass populator settings, or increase the AA, as the grass models itself are very fine structures. You can see it in this render (Vray)

Or what do you think?

agree !
very high for the population, AA 11 (at least)...
good render though, even if i don't like saturated colours (but that is only personnal taste, not technical critic)

Yes I would definitely render them at highest detail.
I always do that, except for populations in the (far) background.
In my opinion it is always worth it and it really does look better.
I see you've posted your models elsewhere here, thanks for sharing!

I replaced the image in the original posting, it now shows more of the fine details. You can comapre to the old version here:

Ahh..nice! What do you think? Didn't the grasses and the models benefit from the increased detail? I do think so!
I also noticed you upped the atmosphere samples. It looks 'cleaner' now.
I assume you kept the specularity the same?
Great work anyway!
