This would be a good example to compare the cloud changes between the Beta and v2.0. In 2.0 the fake internal scattering no longer affects the parts of the clouds which are in shadow. To be more specific, the fake internal scattering no longer applies to the Enviro Light (GI) component of the light on the cloud. I made that change to address the criticism that a lot of big cumulus clouds in TG have an 'oily' look to their bases or that there is too much weird shading in their shadowed areas. It would be great to see this re-rendered in 2.0 if you get a chance, so that we can do a side-by-side comparison of a fairly extreme example.

I got that wrong. That change in the cloud lighting is in 2.0.3.1 which is currently only available as the Free Edition. We'll send that update out to Deep Edition owners very soon.

this is looking really nice now. However, try to follow my earlier advice still and increase the cloud color a bit and decrease the cloud density a bit. try a crop to see what it does. I think it's worth it.

I think this improved greatly in the new version.

Frank and I were talking about this and we thought the only thing to still do is increase the intensity of your cloud colors (both color and scatter color) and to reduce density so the light will be able to pass through the clouds better.

edit: I'm getting slow, Frank was first :)

chefc, did you make any changes at all between the version 2.0 and 2.03 images or did you just update TG and hit render? I think the clouds look a lot better in the second render in the shadows and i'm just wondering if this change is down to the change Matt made between versions or if you've done something.

The "oil" has gone in the shadows of the clouds in the second one.

Yeah... the clouds look a lot better in the new version.
I'll stay tuned on this one.

Same tgd for both renders 2.0 and 2.03 Matt's update gets all the credit

Lower cloud is a bit too dark and I think that it would be worth decreasing its density too. Pretty ominous.

I think the changes Matt made were well worth it. Looks a lot more natural now! :D
