take a look at this:

interesting, to say the least.  looks like the guy has really done his homework.

quite a different application than tg2 though, in that it is specifically a game related piece of work.  even a faux 3dmax interface is included.

notwithstanding, watch one of the features videos, entitled "Advanced Objects Management", and dream about doing something that easily in tg2.  whoa!  translation gizmos, whoodathunk?!

Wow, I'm surprised I have never heard of this, thats pretty cool.

Hello,

I'm one of the developers from Quad Software.
I'm glad you like our software even though is a game related editor.
In the following versions we really like to open to rendering community too
so please feel free to come with suggestions.

Best Regards,
Licu

PS: you didn't heard of us because we previously done games and the editor
was just released 2 days ago.

Some very impressive features shown in the video demos, especially the Advanced Object Management. I do hope we'll be able to get close to that level for TG2 object manipulation, but there are a lot of additional challenges given the heavy reliance on displacement. Although it seems like fundamentally these two applications do the same things, it makes it a lot easier when you base things on a normal heightfield, or when you limit displacement scale. Within the bounds of what is possible in an open system like TG2 we'll certainly be aiming for this level of ease of use.

I've seen this site this is home to a well known application that's called World Construction Set (WCS) which is capable of using GIS and GPS data for a vary different set of applications such as Forestry Management and Civil Engineering and Land Management which require vary different tools and feature requirements then what TG2 is set up to do right now.

If you where going to take Terragen down that route then it would require the ability to make terrain from cartographic contour lines and support things like the import of GIS, GPS and Surveying data such as .Grass and .GEOTIFF as well as satellite, multispectral data and remote sensing data in the optical, x-ray, gamma ray, UV and near and far inferred spectrum and should Handel multichannel-channel complex data sets etc.

I am sure a specialist in the above fields could go on to flesh out the needed features if required in some detail but I am sure one of the major requirements would be a fail safe data structure. All of the above is purely hypothetical but if you where to draw together the respective feature sets of the GIS and related programs together into one application you could have market dominance in these under resourced fields.

Regards to you.

absolutely apples and oranges:  game levels vs. real environments.

thx for sharing the team's intentions, gives one hope ;D.

neat, it cool that a dev posted here.

The world is round... so you have to use spherical projection.
