Thanks for the comments.
I work on planetary scale. This means I aim for a planet that can have endless rendering possibilities. I try not to get precious about a certain scene or POV. I travel about a lot and planets modulate from one version to the next. Many ideas get dropped but have scope for going back to. Many ideas never make it to the final planet. Hence a lot of what seems like ditched stuff.
Before I get back into heavy planet work I intend to work through some techniques more carefully. Things I experimented with that were never refined. Accidents etc. I'll post about a few things (eventually).
The trouble at the moment is that I'm selling a house and I'll be moving so not much time. I'm downsizing all my stuff, software I use etc. I even flogged my Mac and Logic Pro. Getting working processes going with both music and art so I can actually get something finished for a change.
I also need a faster computer but this will all be sorted in the next few months. I'm not sure how a new computer is going to pan out with TG2. I'll install Ubuntu 64 bit. You can still use a 32 bit version of Wine. Even if TG2 works it might be a lot slower than on Windows but I'll see.
At the moment my computer is hammering away scanning hundreds of old 35mm negatives. Just another downsizing of stuff before I move so I doubt I will be doing any more rendering any time soon.
