Just a short question. What's the Compute Terrain node do, exactly? When would you need to use it?

I'm guessing it calculates the whole terrain, displacement and all. But how would for example a displacement shader differ from being behind or after this node?

We have a pretty good search function in the forums here which should help in finding such information in the future.

Ah, thanks. I was using the search function in the documentation, guess I should've looked in here too.

Good bit of info though!

I pre-purchased TG2 a long time ago and my few remarks on this forum have always been supportive of the developers and accepting of the delays.  I do, however, think that suggesting that a user should take more time searching not only the documentation but also the various fora before posting a query is getting to be just a little bit unreasonable.

The present documentation situation is like selling someone an incredibly complex camera and saying you'll have to ask someone else how it works. What documentation there is is unhelpful and often the explanation of a node is little more than a verbose retatement of its name.  I wouldn't grumble but I think you need to bear the quality of your documentation before being snooty with your customers.

I still like the product I just wish I had a clue what I'm doing so that when something works I could repeat it  ;)

I was not intending to be "snooty" to anyone, and we realize the documentation needs work. It is definitely a work in progress and will be improved soon, and continuously over time. But in the meantime there are many resources and useful discussions in the forum here and I was simply pointing that out. The poster seemed to understand that my intention was only to help, judging by his response.

I have been repeating what has worked for some time. Then, trying something new. I have a long way to go learning this program, but I have enjoyed every minute.
What has helped me considerably to see how things work, is to grab the landscape files (tgd) which people have kindly posted. I am amazed at how many different ways people have used to make stunning images.
I agree that the search function of the forum is cumbersome. But some reading and patience has payed off. Sometimes there is a lot of material to wade through until you find what you've been looking for.
