Mouse woes

My Razer Copperhead has been my right hands faithful companion since 2005 until just recent....  We used to speed together across the screen, precision in both clicking applications and shooting heads.  Having a large desktop to travel across gave her quite a workout, but with the increased dpi and polling speed she could do it fast and with precision I trusted with minimal hand movement...

Recently, she has begun to fail me.  Randomly double clicking places i told her to click only once, while dragging she decides to stop dragging and then re drag a tad later causing me to highlight things I didnt want or drop folders in places that weren't my destination.  I tried seeing if maybe she just needed the latest drivers, but after getting both the latest drivers and firmware, she continues to seem to have a mind of her own...

I think its coming time for a divorce, maybe pick up a younger hotter model... That doesn't have a mind of its own.

Just wondering, anyone else have this issue ever?  A dieing mouse?  I tried a normal mouse on this computer and it seemed to work fine, and I tried the copperhead really quick on my laptop, and it also seemed to do some dropping of my drags but with not much screen resolution it was hard to test it into breaking...  It saddens me to see such a fine piece of hardware start to fail if thats whats happening...  Its in that annoying area of it happens enough to piss me off and need a new one, but not so often and dead that I'm in my car already going to the store for a new one.

Reading reviews of the copperhead on newegg seem to suggest its a common problem that usually start a year or so in... guess my beauty and I beat the average... she is special...  also looks like I'll be on the mouse market.

Look, it seems you didn't start the whole thing, did you? The bitch decided to play games with you, so you show her the door (I assume it's your house not hers), and get a new one. Seems logical to me. No?

I can sympathise (though probably not spell it) I've had my Microsoft Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer2.0 for about the same amount of time, and I would be gutted if it died. I've had rodents come and go, but this is "the one".

I'd get yourself a good lawyer for the spit

I have a Logitech LX3 and hate it. It works fine but I hate the shape. However for worst mouse ever Apple win by miles - the mighty mouse which is an absolute joke but I don't have a Mac anymore anyway. I always go back to some old cheap Samsung PS/2 mice I have:

Nothing has ever come close to bettering these.

I've tried lots of mice and most are simply very badly designed in their shape.

I don't think I could ever fall back to a normal mouse or an old one... After having a gaming mouse, the 2000dpi just becomes part of what i'm used to.. and the very good precision...  i could never return to 800/400 dpi...

I've got really bad hand and wrist problems, so the right fitting mouse is an ongoing obsession - I try every new model I can find. Partly its tough because even though I'm right handed, I use the mouse lefty (so I can use my Wacom and do key shortcuts with my right). And the "best" mice seem to all be the asymmetric ones made to be use right-handed.

But all that said, the Logitech VX Nano has become my new favorite, hands down. Great wheel feel, nice and heavy and it can switch back and forth between freewheeling scroll and detented scroll. The wheel has "push left" and "push right" button clicks, so you can make custom macros to do things like use that to click to the next/previous keyframe in AfterEffects, for example.

I don't game any more, but the wireless latency isn't noticeable at all, and I move pretty fast. The wireless USB receiver is tiny and can actually store -inside- the mouse when traveling. Its a superb notebook mouse.

Its a little smaller than my previous fave, the venerable Microsoft Intellimouse Optical - but I got used to that pretty quick. But if you have really big hands it might not be optimal.

But otherwise, I can't say enough good things about it. Its just an excellent piece of hardware all around, and the driver hasn't given me a bit of trouble.

Wish I could say the same for my SpaceTraveler - which basically serves as an expensive paperweight most of the time... Nicely built, but the drivers just flat-out suck.

Wireless mice are nice.. its just with my usage I'd be killing batteries all the time, and that annoys me more then a little lag.  So, once we have wireless power, ill get one

I have 2 sets of rechargeable batteries and a small inexpensive charger that I've been using for a couple of years for my wireless laser mouse. So no need to buy new ones all the time plus, the batteries last a couple of weeks between charges and I work my mouse hard. Oops! The Animal rights people might get after me for that!

i guess both battery and energy saving mouse technology has probably advanced a lot in the years, i just remeber my friends who had them and they seemed to die allll the time, and always right in the middle of a intense game or something.

maybe in ~3-4 years when i next look for a mouse ill consider wireless a bit more.

i bought a wireless keyboard + mouse combo from logitech last november, and I had to replace the stock batteries only recently - and I am using the mouse constantly every day.

Another reason I love the VX Nano - I never turn it off & am working sometimes 16 hour days, and it only needs new batteries about once every few months. I don't know what kind of nuclear power assist is in there, but it sure works. Its really light on battery use.

I'd never liked the wireless mice before, as I'd always used the wire to orient the thing during fast usage (you know, the way rally car drivers put a piece of white tape where "up" is on the steering wheel!), but once I got used to it - having to whip over a cord out of the way 1000 times a day was something I was glad to never have to do again.
