Yes this works for objects of course, but not for planets.

Hmm. I have not worked with entire planets much. I've done a couple, which turned out horrible.
Maybe a GIS file would do the trick?

Yes, these functions don't currently work for planets as you would expect. They do have an effect, I believe, but it's not the normal rotation you would want (about the planet's axis).

Maybe something can be done in the node network? I tried the obvious (rotate), but it rotated the colours, not the position of the image map. :-(
