Real or Fake? [answer]

Which one is real and which is Terragen 2? Keep in mind that each image has a slightly different lighting, sun angle etc. (so not that great of a comparison). I also edited the CG image so that it looks closer to a photograph look -- which may help give it away to some of you.

Image 1 has the Terragen 2 clouds.

Very good one there, if i never used tg2 i wouldn't know between them.

I'll have to say Image 1 is TG2 too.

I do recognise the patterns, but the realism is wonderful.  Also, the noise in Image 2 is too uniform ;p

Image 1 is the photographs. 2 there are too many images to add artificial noise. Or, are all created terragen2.Images created terragen2 very real.

I *think* image 1 is TG2 - perhaps the shadows in image 2 are just a little more convincing? Also, I think TG2 is rather prone to a slightly grainy "lumpiness" in clouds at small scales that Nature doesn't often show. But by golly, it's close! Fantastic work!
EDIT: would be interesting to see just how close-up one could get to the TG2 image before it becomes obvious.

2 are real...I guess?....in the full view there is some noise that looks like photographic noise?

Great work on those TG2 clouds!
Beside the realism achieved already you've postworked it nicely to give it quite a photographic feel to it.
When do we see more?

There's something about image 2 that says.... Real. ( I hope I'm right)

The noise in image 2 looks very photo-like. It almost had me wishing more samples were used but in real life, you can't win them all.

Image 2 is real, I think.

Okay, Image 1 is the Terragen render and Image 2 is the real one. As I expected most of you got it right  . Here is the full Terragen Image. This is perhaps the closest I've ever gotten to the goal of the type of clouds scene in the real picture. I'm happy with the color for the most part. I finally got the silver lining effect I was after. What I am still having problems with is the correct fractal and getting enough contrasting tall vs. shorter clouds.
