obj shadow problem
May 22, 2009, 07:31:28 AM
Hi,
I have a problem with objs still casting shadows when the opacity (via default shader) is off.
They have to gradually appear in shot via a animated z depth planer mask I'm using.
Is there any way around this?
Thanks
Chris

unfortunately for the time being the opacity Chanel is simply on or off, up to (but not including) 50% grey equals black (off), over 50% grey equals white (on).

Even at 0% opacity, my objs are still casting shadows.

If you want objects not to cast shadows, then going to the "Extra" tab in your renderer and unchecking "Ray traced shadows" might help?

Opacity should be respected by the shadows... it should work even better than with visible polygons (which is only on of off). Can you send me something to test?
EDIT: I can render an imported OBJ sphere as on or off depending on whether opacity is greater than or less than 0.5. Shadows are working the same as visible polygons. Greyscale transparency appears not to be working at the moment.
