Hi,

my first attempt of rendering a twister.



I am not really happy, but well

It looks strange indeed, but you may be able to get there. Nobody to my knowledge has succeeded in making a convincing twister, yet, so don't frown. Just keep trying

It's a very atmospheric scene, even without the twister.

Domdib is correct. The vertical parts of the funnel need to be stretched in an angled arc, if you follow me. More cloud layers attached to the funnel would help also.

Actually, old_blaggard managed to creat a very cool  and realistic looking (in my opinion at least) tornado. He was also kind enough to make the tgd available in ashundar's (terragen.org) file sharing section.

right, I did not remember this one. Not perfect, but the best one seen so far. definitely.
Maybe one day I will try this as well.
