This has been happening to me since day one ...

Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered. ...

followed by ..

The NVIDIA OpenGL driver encountered error and must close this application.

Error13

well its still happening. The driver may have successfully recover but TG dose not :(
Its not that big a deal but is frustrating when I haven't saved my project ...
The drivers are up to date etc and the problem only occurs in TG2

Would using an older driver version work? I do not know which OpenGL Terragen 2 uses. I do know that the programmers behind OpenGL update and make changes often; some are not doc'd well, or the docs have not caught up to the release.

Strangely I dont think its a driver issue, it happens so infrequently (well a couple of times a week) that its hard to guess at what the cause may be. It seems to happen when I drag the Node window about (alt+ lmb+drag). If I install an older driver (which may have issues of its own) there' no way to know if its solved the issue for ages. Just because the issue is not happening yet don't mean its not there, it could still surface days or weeks later. No, I think its more likely to be down to how Terragen works with Nvidia cards, sort of not a Terragen issue or a driver issue but rather "the space between" lol
I'd be interested if anyone else has had similar issues ...

AMD/ATI has a good history of tracing down these 'bugs' and releasing updates. If you can use Vista's event viewer and error reporting to specify the problem, Invidia may be able to help. This worked for getting Oblivion to play without problems on Vista.

Cyphyr, me too!  I run Vista Home Premium 64 bit on i7 940 cpu with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295.  When I run TG2, other background programs start going crazy on me.  I get lots of errors including the ones that you mention.  If my machine wasn't so stable running other applications, I'd suspect hardware, but rather I'm suspecting that the multi-core feature of TG2 has a memory leak.  I can't prove it, but I suspect it.  Vista is probably letting TG2 have system memory that it isn't locking down.

In every case I've seen this is a driver or hardware issue inherent to the system. If your drivers are up-to-date, you might try beta drivers, if available. Also, what are your other system specs? If this is an AMD system, make sure motherboard chipset drivers are installed. As someone else mentioned, you might also try reverting to a previous driver version for testing purposes.
