A friend recently introduced me to the artist Friedrich. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caspar_David_Friedrich
I especially like 'The Abbey in the Oakwood' so I thought to attempt a TG version. Postwork in PS.

Of course, it isn't exact, I'm a little confused at the perspective of the abbey in different reference images, and I lack the skills to create the trees in the true simulacrum of a reference image but these will do, I suppose. There could be more of them in this image, too, I think they're a bit sparse. Lighting is a bit off aswell but, meh, it'll do for now.
I can share these low-res, no leaf trees if anyone wants them.

Thanks for looking! :)

Lol, yes, that would be the painting, Francke!

OK, I'll edit too. ;) :D

Cool image :) You've managed to emulate his style very well.
With a little more work this could become something spacial :)

Very good CG version of Caspar's work. A wee bit of dodging (top of ruin) and burning (mid undergrowth belt) and a PS layer of distressing/grunging noise, and you'll have it just about bang on. Trees would be useful for any spooky scene with them silhouetted on the horizon.

I hope I realise I don't exist before I apparently die.

Looks like Halloween has arrived early this year at Planetside.

WOW.  Yeah, dodge, burn, add some clutter to and more texture to foreground.  Though you got inspiration from the artist, there is an aspect to this that makes it look the other way around.  You are creating an image that looks like the source of what the artist may have painted.  Man, I'd love to see where you can take this!!

Halloween, aye.
I've been reading ye olde texts and stuff recently too. Really getting into the old gothic novels. William Beckford, Mary Shelley and the likes.
There are a good few Friedrich paintings I'd like to try my hand at in TG. A lot of them include people, though, and I'm no modeller.

Cheers, folks! :)

Great work Martin!
I think you did a great job at resembling the image.
Nice atmospherics, well done!

I think this is really cool.  Nice work getting it really close to the original yet still retaining some uniqueness.
