Edit: Mucked up a lot with this one. I am doing a entirely different approach soon.    ::)

I would add some ambient occlusion onto the surfaces with the halo color around the sun.

Took long enough but here is the change i am working on. I still need to fix the rocks though.

...you have to break up the continuity of the the strata for a more natural looking...

Sometimes strata can be quite straight in certain areas. When i was out in Utah, i had seen some of that. I could detail it with stone layers of course. I think the only part of this i need to work on is again the rocks and i wanted some black clouds but i don't think they show up for some unknown reason.  ???

The scene is a bit dark. You need to do something to sort that. However, I like your scales.

It is supposed to be that dark. The intent is a non-earth place. I am still not sure if i'll ever get back to this though. It is too hard to get certain precisions i want to have.
