sorry guys to nag you but i joined this forum to ask this question
i usually don't have problems with tech stuff but i cant find what am I doing wrong here
so the prolem is: i make a scene, everything works just fine, then i render it , it comes out fine but there is no way to save it
i mean it kinda savesit shows no error but i cant see it in file browser- the directory is empty(and i've tried all disks and few folders) ???
is this a bug or am I stupid... i had no problems with terragen 0.9
btw using windows se7en x64 and terragen 2.0.3.1 deep edition.

help would be appreciated

Where are you saving it to? I know I had some problems saving stuff into any other folder than my user directory. Try saving it to the desktop, that's usually a safe haven. Try saving in some of the other formats too.
Figured out how to do clicky signatures

You might want to try also right clicking the icon, going to the compatibility tab, and checking "Run this program as an administrator".  I think this should let you save elsewhere if you are having issues.

Though I just tried with my windows 7 and I'm able to save fine.

Are you using the save button on top of the render window? The Save As in the File menu saves the tgd file, which is the terrain data. If the image is not finished the Save button does not appear; it is the Stop button. When the image is done it will say Finished Rendering (Time spent rendering).
I hope this does not offend you. But my first render, the image looked finished, but I could not figure out how to save the image either. I fell asleep on the next render, and noticed the difference when I looked after waking. I felt a little silly. :-[

tnx man i think you saved me.... :)
tried as you said and it finally works ;D
but there is a catch, when it renders, it shows the "(not responding)" in titlebar... but i don't give a damn i'm happy that it finally serves its purpose

Sometimes I also get the "Not responding" right at the end of a big render for awhile.  I just leave it alone and usually after a bit (depending on how big of a render) it goes away and gives me the save option.

I have seen the 'program not responding' also. I believe the program is stitching the various render blocks together, probably some color correction/optimization.

Neuspadrin and Njeneb , sometimes  i see this too. I wonder if this has anything to do with Vista ? I use vista 64 what is your os? Maybe this is like you said normal.

I want to switch in the very  near time to windows 7 64 . Wonder if the little problems with the gui in TG2 with windows 7 are fixed ?

basically it prob has to do with the various os's determination of "not responding".  the newer ones are a bit more strict on the time given to handle a given input and respond back.  when they dont, the operating system deems it "not responding".  but when near the end of a render when its finishing up it probably is doing a big final put together that makes the program ignore this.

Getting older , didn't see that you are using windows 7 :)

What is the last situation with this " I want to switch in the very  near time to windows 7 64 . Wonder if the little problems with the gui in TG2 with windows 7 are fixed ?  "
Or if there are any problems? Maybe this was a Mac problem i don't remember ...

I've seen it in Vista x64 on my larger renders.  Havn't done much since upgrading to 7 so have yet to see for sure if it happens on 7 for me too.

If there are any problems i would love to hear it . If there are , i can wait.

Thanks.

Hi,

The only current problem I'm aware of with Windows 7 is bad behaviour when you maximise a window and then drag its title bar to get it to go back to its previous size. Aside from that everything appears to work fine.

EDIT: I should say I'm going to look into this in the very near future and hope to have it fixed for the next release.

Jo

This is nothing to fear about.

Thanks, Jo .    Edit :  For the answer below too. Good to know :D

Hi,

The "not responding" issue is not something to worry about. As neuspadrin says, if Windows feels that it has been too long since an application has handled user input like mouse clicks then it says the application is not responding. The time before it does this does seem to have become shorter in Vista and possibly a bit shorter again in Windows 7. It's nothing to worry about though, TG2 is just busy doing its thing. At some point we will make changes so this doesn't occur anymore.

If it gets stuck not responding for quarter of an hour or something then something has probably gone wrong, but I'm not actually aware of any problems like this with TG2 at the moment.

Regards,

Jo
