http://k3dsurf.sourceforge.net/
and some nice stuff created with the above: http://k3dsurf.s4.bizhat.com/k3dsurf-ftopic9-0-asc-0.html

anyone here used it?

it looks cool,

its multi format, and saves as obj...I may give this a spin on my mac

j meyer

Interesting find (for some reason or the other)!
Thanks for making me aware of that.

mmmm, I did a bit of reading, possibly wont work on my mac, unless I install QT3???....I may try to get it to run on my old machine?
also found this:

http://www.topmod3d.org/

anyone else have any knowledge/experience here?

j meyer

"anyone else have any knowledge/experience here?"

What exactly do you want to know?

inkydigit

@j meyer sorry for being ambiguous, I am interested in, specifically; freeware programs that are usable on a mac, and that are capable of creating polyhedral models that are savable as objs, or at least something like that!

Hi,

It sounded interesting so I had a look, the Qt it wants is referring to Qt http://qt.nokia.com/
the cross platform development toolkit  from Nokia not QuickTime.

The mac version has Qt 4.3 included in the add bundle so it should just be a plain download and run.

Inkydigit, if you want to create polyhedral models, a free Java app is available here:
http://bulatov.org/polyhedra/stellation_applet/ - scroll down to the bottom for the stellation.zip executable

I've run it on both Macs and PCs.

I posted a bit more about it here: http://forums.planetside.co.uk/index.php?topic=6244.0

inkydigit

thanks Dave and Dom...I will check those out!

j meyer

Topmod should be good for that and more.

inkydigit

yeah as I had suspected, even after installing Qt3, as required, k3dsurf instacrashes every time...bummer, topmod works fine, now all I need to do is work out how to use it...looks fun anyway!

TopMod3d looked interesting until I read this on the download page:

"TopMod 2.0 is the latest release. It is still quite buggy, and it will definitely crash a lot while you are using it."

:(

I hope I realise I don't exist before I apparently die.

Can't blame them for being honest, right?

it's true, I think you have to be very careful when manipulating the complex geometry, its easy to ask it to do something impossible!

So this is Disney World.  Can we live here?
