This is my first go at a render with the new 2.1 build. There is definately a noticable improvement when rendering large populations. But alas, the water could use some work. Enjoy  :)

Sweet work, the populations look very very good ;D

What settings did you use regarding AA, filter-type etc.?

Don't have to mention anything about the water I see :)

Cheers,

Wow, that looks really great. Very calm and peaceful. I like the ground texture. Maybe the wave scale is a little bit too large?!

ndeewolfwood

i enjoy it
oh god...this one is cool.
the 2.1 is really magic.
i m curious about setting too.
that trees did you use ?

Gannaingh

Thanks for the replies!

@TU: I used an AA 8 with the Narrow Cubis filter and raytraced objects clicked on with the default settings.

@Hannes: That could be it, I'll do some crop renders to see if it makes much of a difference; thanks for the suggestion.

@ ndeewolfwood: The trees are Klas' Oak trees (IMO they are easily in the top 3 most useful/highest quality trees available) and should still be available for download on his website.

Beautiful render and impressive work in all apsects!

EoinArmstrong

That is stunning.  Am mad jealous - but it's also inspiring.  Wonderful work - tremedous detail from the trees to the shoreline.  Love it!

Dune

Great image, Darthvader1! And very nice light. I agree about the latest build, absolutely fantastic job they did.

Gorgeous render. Yep, smaller scale waves should do it. The other thing I noticed that could improve the scene is to use one or two more species of tree in the mix (if your hardwear will allow).

I hope I realise I don't exist before I apparently die.

NWsenior07

Wow thats a most excellent render you've got there. Well done!

Gannaingh

Finally an update! I've added another population of trees, decreased the wave scale, made the water smoother and clearer, and added a subtle mountain way off yonder in the distance.

Damn man, this looks near photorealistic ;D
What were your render-settings this time? Always useful to know.

You might try to add some extra stuff to the surface like fake stones and grasses (only foreground portion).
The different tree-species look good together. However, you might try to make clumps or streaks of different trees so they are more grouped. That's what you often see in nature.

I really like this work, very atmospheric too.
Keep m coming :)

Thanks TU! I do want to add more pines in there; probably another population with really clumped distribution. I actually do have a population of bushes down along the shore, I will just have to raise the trees' minimum altitude to make the more noticable. My render settings were:

Detail: .9
AA: 8, Narrow Cubic, Ray-Trace Objects On with default settings
GI: 2/2
